From giving a few hours to making a life-long commitment, volunteers are at the heart of what we do at Hospice Calgary. Our volunteers give their time through:
- Providing clients and patients with care, comfort, and food
- Administrative and reception roles
- Involvement in special event committees
- Representing us at special events
- Service on our Board of Directors and committees
- Participation in our Ambassador Program
Volunteering at Hospice Calgary
Explore and apply for our current volunteer opportunities below. Please contact our Manager of Volunteer Services directly if you have any questions.
Our program matches trained volunteers who have also experienced the loss of someone close to them with caregivers or family members looking for support. The consistency of the volunteer creates a long-standing, trusting relationship.
Have you lost a loved one, and would you like to help support someone else through the grieving process? Although not essential, having experience in counselling or nursing is a great compliment to the position.
Companion Program Volunteers support clients and their families to cultivate connections and promote quality of life. The volunteer is responsible for connecting with assigned clients/families to offer companionship and resourcing while assessing and supporting their needs within the volunteer’s scope of practice.
We will be hosting our 2023 Hike for Hospice Calgary at Fish Creek Park on May 7, 2023. Check back in January 2023 for more information about volunteering for this event.
Bring your co-workers or team to Hospice Calgary to work together, all while giving back to the clients and patients we serve.
Western Legacy Award Winner 2018
Congratulations to our 12 volunteers with the Living With Cancer Program who were selected as the winners of the Calgary Stampede 2018 Western Legacy Award in the category of Sustained Contribution for a Group!
The Living With Cancer Program is a weekly group that provides support to adults who are facing the challenges of living with advanced cancer. Caregivers (adult family and friends) are also invited to attend. Volunteers are at the heart of this program. They assist with all activities while also providing comfort and support to the participants. Every Wednesday, our volunteers share heartfelt connections (and laughter too) with our clients. Hospice Calgary “salutes” our volunteers — their service and compassion benefits us all.
