Telephone Bereavement Support Program Volunteer

Our program matches trained volunteers who have also experienced the loss of someone close to them with caregivers or family members looking for support. The consistency of the volunteer creates a long-standing, trusting relationship.

Have you lost a loved one, and would you like to help support someone else through the grieving process? Although not essential, having experience in counselling or nursing is a great compliment to the position.

Companion Program Volunteer/Companion

Companion Program Volunteers support clients and their families to cultivate connections and promote quality of life. The volunteer is responsible for connecting with assigned clients/families to offer companionship and resourcing while assessing and supporting their needs within the volunteer’s scope of practice.

Children’s Grief Centre Program Volunteers

Volunteer (once every couple months) to assist with set-up, activities, and take-down during our family drop-in program, The Village. Future activities include Light the Path and cookie and Grinch tree decorating during the holiday season.

This opportunity is open to youth who have accessed our programs in the past or to those who simply have a passion for helping families in our community.

Rosedale Hospice Reception Volunteers

Volunteer (weekly, bi-weely, or causal) to answer calls, greet and direct visitors, deal with deliveries, and to be a listening ear for patients’ families and friends.

Rosedale Hospice Patient Care Volunteers

Volunteer monthly to assist staff in providing comfort care to patients. Examples include mouth care, meals, moving patients, and housekeeping.

Event Volunteers

Hospice Calgary often needs volunteers to help with various events throughout the year. Responsibilities often change depending on the need of the event but can involve:

  • Selling raffle tickets and accepting donations
  • Providing resources to event attendees from a booth or table
  • Golf Tournament set up or managing of holes
  • Registration
  • Food Service

and more…

The next Hike for Hospice Calgary will be held on May 5, 2024. If you’re interested in volunteering, please email leeanne.alexander@hospicecalgary.ca.
