From giving a few hours to making a life-long commitment, volunteers are at the heart of what we do at Hospice Calgary. They are a group of multi-talented, compassionate and caring people; their commitment and energy know no bounds. Our volunteers help us support our clients and patients through:
Congratulations to our 12 volunteers with the Living With Cancer Program who were selected as finalists for the Calgary Stampede 2018 Western Legacy Award in
the category of Sustained Contribution for a Group! The final recipient of the award will be announced on November 20th.
The Living With Cancer Program is a weekly group that provides support to adults who are facing the challenges of living with advanced cancer. Caregivers (adult family and friends) are also invited to attend. Volunteers are at the heart of this program. They assist with all activities while also providing comfort and support to the participants. Every Wednesday, our volunteers share heartfelt connections (and laughter too) with our clients. Hospice Calgary ‘salutes’ our volunteers -- their service and compassion benefits us all.
Stay tuned for the outcome of this award!
Corporate & Community Groups
Hospice Calgary has volunteer opportunities for local corporate or community groups! Bring your team down and work together to give back to those we help.
Group volunteer opportunities include serving lunch during our Living with Cancer Program, helping with the annual Hike for Hospice Calgary, and baking or cooking for one of our grief and advanced illness support groups.
Special Event Volunteers
Do you love to volunteer at special events such as charity walks, golf tournaments, and casinos? We have general openings for event volunteers.
Hike for Hospice Calgary Volunteers
Each year, we rely on more than 50 volunteers to make this event a success! If you can spare a few hours on Sunday, May 5, 2019, we'd love to hear from you!
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact our Manager of Volunteer Services at firstname.lastname@example.org for a volunteer application. We will contact you with next steps. Before signing up, we recommend reading our Volunteer FAQs below.

When you become part of our team, we all benefit. Volunteering with Hospice Calgary provides benefits and opportunities in abundance, and the rewards are as unique and personal as your reasons for wanting to volunteer. Here are a few reasons our volunteers gave us:
Who can volunteer?
We offer opportunities to volunteers aged 18 and older. If you are younger than 18, please contact us directly as there are some positions where age is not a factor.
Where can I volunteer?
All hospices in Calgary & Area are run separately and recruit their own volunteers. Hospice Calgary only recruits volunteers for Rosedale Hospice and Sage Centre.
How do I become a volunteer?
You can contact us directly to apply for any open position online, by emailing our Manager of Volunteer Services: email@example.com.
You will be contacted with further instructions. An interview and necessary training usually follow, with some roles requiring further screening such as a criminal record or vulnerable sector check.
What will I be doing?
Volunteer opportunities are varied and there are many ways to be involved. Some of the ways you can help include:
There are a number of off-site activities that volunteer groups or individuals can participate in that will directly benefit those being served by Hospice Calgary, such as quilting or sewing. Please contact us directly for more information.
What is the time commitment?
The length of time varies depending on the position. There are one-time, seasonal and ongoing volunteer roles. On your request form please indicate the level of commitment you are seeking and we will make every effort to find a suitable arrangement.
