Beyond Relief: Bringing Comfort Through Massage at Rosedale Hospice

Feb 18, 2026

When an email came through her inbox seeking a volunteer massage therapist for Rosedale Hospice, Mellisha, owner of Omega Massage & Wellness, felt an immediate and unmistakable “yes!”in her body. Though she receives many requests for donations and volunteer support, this one was different — a full‑body knowing that she was meant to respond.

Mellisha’s path into wellness began years ago, when she received a single massage during her corporate job. This experience planted a quiet seed that would eventually grow into a 20-year career in massage therapy.

At Rosedale, Mellisha offers gentle, mindful massage tailored to the unique needs of hospice patients, focusing on comfort, safety, and calm with light pressure. During her first visit with one patient, a deep sense of respect formed when they discovered they were both half Cree — a connection that opened the door to a bond of trust and understanding. Despite significant pain, he reported remarkable relief following Mellisha’s visits — a powerful reminder of how meaningful compassionate touch can be at the end of life.

Dr. Corinne McDonald, an attending at Rosedale Hospice, shared that “Massage therapy was a phenomenal adjunct to ensure this patient’s comfort: Therapeutic touch provided relaxation, social interaction, and reduced the need for pain medication. The patient truly looked forward to massage sessions as a highlight in their week, and was ever so grateful that this was an option.”

For Mellisha, volunteering has been unexpectedly impactful. “It felt like something small to give, but hearing how much it meant… that’s been the sweetest thing,” she shares. “There’s nothing I expect to receive — yet what comes back is profound.”

Mellisha describes Rosedale Hospice as a tender and sacred place, and considers it an honour to support individuals during such an important chapter.

We are deeply grateful for the comfort, presence, and heart she brings to our hospice — and for the beautiful way she helps our patients feel cared for, seen, and at peace.
