Education on Living with Advanced Illness

Hospice Calgary has provided palliative and hospice care, support during advanced illness, and grief counselling for people and families in Calgary and area for over 30 years. The following learning opportunities are focused to help strengthen, engage, and equip you to face uncertainty. We share practical tools and offer resources to support professionals and community advocates in their day-to-day work. You’ll gain new awareness, skills and knowledge to help respond to the challenges you face.

Expert-led seminars from the Living with Advanced Illness Centre include topics such as:

  • Caregiver support
  • Advanced care planning
  • How to talk to your family about Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID)
  • Spirituality
  • and many more….

Who will benefit from these sessions? Anyone who would like to broaden their understanding of palliative care and grief as well as:

  • Individuals Grieving or Facing Advanced Illness (grieving individuals and families, people living with advanced illness, and caregivers)
  • Community Representatives (volunteers, community agencies, public forum organizers, and not-for-profit professionals)
  • First Points of Contact (educators & school support staff, health & mental health care professionals, first responders, and spiritual care providers)
  • Student Bodies (grades 1-12 and post-secondary)

Registration for Dying to Know is now open!

Our monthly education program, Dying To Know, is open to anyone interested in a variety of topics related to death and dying. These interactive sessions help in preparing for end-of-life, offer strategies for staying resilient through challenging times, and help care partners become more confident in their roles. These sessions are hosted online free of charge. Donations are welcome.
